How long does it take for you to make a piece?

Each piece takes anywhere from a few weeks to many months to create. I think, plan, but do not sketch. I jump in and let a piece develop. It is all about the process…..

When is a piece finished?

Every artist goes through this decision process moment. There are many decisions to make along the way, (i.e. round, square, tall, short, red, green, black, more material, less material, open, dense, happy, sad, elements in, out, up, down, etc..) When I have expressed myself and I feel satisfied, a piece is done.

Do you have a title before or after completing a piece?

Often, I have a title before completing a piece and even before I start. Since I am so influenced by materials, I enjoy connecting emotions to ingredients in my titles. I have fun with my titles.

How do you think of your ideas?

This is perhaps the hardest question to answer. Maybe it is because I am wired that way. Maybe it is because materials “speak” to me and challenge me to work with them. I have more ideas than lifetime to carry them out. It is not a struggle. They just come naturally to me.
